Certifying category 6A patch cords using the DTX Laboratory Adapter
DTX Cat6A Test Kit Package DTX-LABA/SET
Fluke Networks has received numerous requests to support Category 6A patch cord testing. In ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.2-10, test limits have been set for the certification of Category 6A patch cords. The transmission requirements of the test jack to be used for certifying Category 6A patch cords has also been defined.

So why is there still no category 6A patch cord adapter from Fluke Networks? The issue is the transmission performance requirements of the test jack. No connecting hardware vendor has a jack that meets these very specific requirements for Fluke Networks to use.

In the interim, to help cable manufacturers produce very high quality category 6A patch cords, the following experimental solution is available.
This solution is intended for cabling manufacturers only. There is no technical support for these adapters.
In addition to theDTX-LABA/SET, you will need theDTX-REFMODto synchronize the main and remote units:
Selecting the test jack to use
With any given category 6A connector, the best channel performance will be achieved using a category 6A patch cord from the same vendor. It therefore makes sense to certify vendor A patch cord with vendor A jack. Jacks and plugs should be interoperable between vendors now that the RJ45 test plug has been defined in TIA/EIA-568-B.2-10; but it is recommended not to mix vendors when certifying patch cords with this solution. Please ensure you use the DTX-LABA/SR for the remote jack as shown below. It has 100 Ohm resistors on it to enhance the Return Loss accuracy of the measurement along with.

Vendors implementing this solution have told us the use of a bonded cable for this application is recommended to limit the impact on return loss. Alternative cables may be used if their impact on return loss is minimal. The wires from the jack to the circuit board should be as short as possible. In addition, the wires should lay on the PCB as much as possible as shown in Figure 2.

The number of insertions a jack can have will depend up on the vendor. Our experience has shown that you can expect around 5,000 insertions before the jack needs replacing. You can use the
counter in the DTXto monitor the life of the jack.

Software
Please ensure you have and installed on your PC. These contain the correct limits for ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.2-10.
