MAS-1It is Decagon's first current sensor based on 70 MHz technology. This sensor provides a standard 4-20mA current output and can be connected to PLCs (programmable logic controllers) or irrigation controllers. Due to the use of a 4-20mA interface, the length of its cable can be extended to over 76.2m.

Theoretical measurement range of MAS-1 sensor
working principle
The MAS-1 soil moisture sensor measures the dielectric constant of soil to obtain its volumetric moisture content. Because the dielectric constant of water is much larger than that of air and soil minerals, soil dielectric constant is a sensitive indicator for measuring soil moisture content. MAS-1 provides a 70MHz vibration wave to the pins of the sensor, which induces the formation of an electric field in the surrounding medium of the sensor. The charging and discharging of sensors are controlled by the dielectric constant of the surrounding soil. The microprocessor on MAS-1 can detect the charging of the sensor, which correlates the soil capacitance with the soil moisture content. The microprocessor performs dielectric measurements and updates the transmission current every second. The transmitted 4-20mA current can be converted into soil moisture content through a simple equation.
Due to the use of a frequency of 70MHz, the influence of salt and texture is minimized, ensuring accuracy of MAS-1 in measuring any soil and non soil medium. Factory calibration includes types such as mineral soil, flowerpot soil, and rock soil.
